By Nisha Rai,Dharan, July 4: In response to the dengue outbreak in Dharan, a comprehensive 'search and destroy' campaign has been launched across all wards of the sub-metropolitan city.

According to the statistics provided by the Health Division in Dharan, cases of dengue infection have been reported in every ward of the sub-metropolitan city.

Umesh Meheta, the head of the Health Division, has confirmed that a woman in Dharan-17 succumbed to dengue infection on June 6.

“The most effective approach to control the rapid spread of dengue is through locating and eliminating the breeding grounds of the mosquito larvae. So the ‘search and destroy’ campaign has been launched in the sub-metropolis,” he said.

According to Meheta, an expert team from Koshi Province collaborated with the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division in Kathmandu and the Provincial Health Directorate in Dhankuta to conduct dengue testing.

He informed that the team that arrived last Friday conducted tests in the Falkland Islands of Dharan-17 and other nearby villages and confirmed cases of dengue infection.

The statistics provided by the sub-metropolis confirmed the spread of dengue infection in all 20 wards of the sub-metropolis.

Based on the recorded data from June 25 to 28, a total of 241 cases of dengue have been reported in the sub-metropolis.

According to the data, a total of 778 people were tested during the specified period, and out of those, 241 individuals were found to be infected with dengue.

Additionally, out of the 68 people who underwent testing at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences on June 29, 30 were diagnosed with dengue infection.

These figures highlight the alarming increase in dengue cases and emphasised the need for immediate measures to control the outbreak and provide necessary medical care to those affected.
