Kholagaun locals volunteering to bring drinking water

blog

By Our Correspondent,Urlabari, July 1: Morang is a relatively developed district in the country. That is why it is hard to believe that there are still some settlements in the district without access to something as basic as drinking water. But there is a village in Miklajung Rural Municipality–1 that is in exactly that condition.

The village's name is Kholagaun (River Village). Right below it flows the perennial Teli River. Yet, the 100 houses in the villages do not get water to drink. But the villagers now want to change this.

So, they have begun volunteering their labour to bring water from the river to their homes.

According to Parvat Rai, chairman of Ward  No. 1, three people have volunteered from 90 houses to bring drinking water.

"This has enabled us to finish 60 per cent of the work," he said, "If everything goes according to plan, we will finish everything in a week."
