National Fine Arts Conference concludes

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 29: Nepal Academy of Fine Arts organised the ‘National Fine Arts Conference 2080’ on Tuesday.

The conference was inaugurated by a group of esteemed artists including ‘Krodhakala Shiromani’ Kalu Kumale, a senior artist and honorary  Academy Council Member, Thakur Prasad Mainali, former vice-chancellor of the Academy, and Batsa Gopal Vaidya, a veteran artist.

 During the conference, Council Member of the Academy Sangi Shrestha presented a suggestion letter along with a proposal and a brief overview of the Nepal Fine Arts Academy’s progress over the past 12 years. 

Council Member of the Academy Om Khatri presented a working paper on the historical and current foundations of Nepali art, while Mukesh Malla presented a paper discussing the past National Fine Arts Exhibition, various activities, future action plans, challenges faced by the art sector, and strategies for sustainable development.

 Artist and art writer Nagendra Prasad Paudyal presented a working paper emphasising the need for institutionalisation, establishment of relevant mechanisms, and the discussion of policies and programmes based on the provisions of the constitution and other existing laws. Thakur Prasad Mainali, a renowned sculptor, highlighted the importance of art education and state-level exhibitions. 

Sharada Chitrakar, another former vice-chancellor, highlighted the richness of Nepal's original art and the inevitable participation of women, considering this conference as a crucial gathering for the art sector.

The artists in attendance were divided into six groups for group discussions. The group representatives later presented their suggestions based on their discussions.

Naradmani Hartamchhali, Chancellor of the Academy, expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic presence of the artists and assured that the advice and suggestions from the conference would be implemented.

Member Secretary of the academy Devendra Thumkeli expressed his commitment to addressing the important matters discussed during the conference.
