By Chitra Mijar,Sindhupalchowk, June 23: Works to fix a Bailey Bridge over the Melamchi River have begun. The river has been without a bridge after a massive flood on June 14, 2021 swept away the concrete bridge.

The locals of Melamchi Municipality, Helambu Rural Municipality, Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality, and Indrawati Rural Municipality are excited after the works to fix the Bailey Bridge began. The bridge fixing work began with the help of the Nepali Army.

According to Chiranjibi Chaulagain, a soldier of the Nepali Army Engineering Division No. 14 Office, the Nepali Army has started work to build the Bailey bridge since Wednesday.

Construction of the Bailey Bridge in the Melamchi began in the efforts of the Minister for Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, and Member of the Bagmati Province Assembly, Krishna Kumar Tamang. The area falls under the constituency of Minister Basnet.

The facilitator of Bailey Bridge fixing works and Nepali Congress Melamchi President, Ramsharan Giri stated that the Bailey Bridge would be ready in two weeks.

After the massive flood that washed away the concrete bridge two years ago, Hume pipes were laid for the vehicles to cross the river in winter. However, during the rainy season, the flood would wash away the Hume pipes, causing big inconvenience to thousands of citizens of the  Melamchi, Helambu, Panchpokhari, and Indrawati areas.
