Madhupark Monthly honours Shrestha, Lohani and Bhattarai

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 14: Madhuparka Masik, the monthly literary magazine of Gorkhapatra Corporation, celebrated its 56th anniversary in the capital on Tuesday.

As part of its efforts to promote and acknowledge Nepali literary creators, the magazine has been decorating literary figures with the 'Madhupark Samman' and 'Madhuparka Pratibha Samman' for many years. This year, three literary personalities, who have made significant contributions to the development of Nepali literature over the years, were honoured.

The Madhuparka Samman Selection Committee has recommended poet Krishna Bhakta Shrestha and prose writer Pushkar Lohani for the Madhuparka Samman-2080.

 Likewise, writer Prabha Bhattarai was honoured with the ‘Madhupark Pratibha Samman.’ Each of the awardees was presented a cash prize of Rs. 35,000 in recognition of their remarkable achievements.

 The three-member Madhupark Samman-2080 selection committee was led by senior writer Ganesh Rasik.

Speaking at the programme, Bishnu Prasad Subedi, Executive Chairman of Gorkhapatra Corporation, said that Madhuparka Masik is not just a literary magazine, it is an academy that nurtures numerous works of literature in Nepal. 

He highlighted that Madhupark serves as a bridge between journalism and literature and possesses its own distinctive identity.

 He also informed that prize amount would be increased to Rs. 50,000 from next year. “This year, the awardees received Rs. 35,000 each, and starting next year, the honorarium will be increased to Rs. 50,000,” he said. 

Similarly, Lal Bahadur Airi, General Manager of Gorkhapatra Corporation, remarked that Madhuparka has facilitated the connection between creators and literature, leading to its current position.

 He emphasised that literature encompasses opinions, knowledge, and emotions, with the ability to transform society.

Veteran poet Bairagi Kainla, the chief guest of the programme, praised the current period as a remarkable era for promoting and developing Nepali literature. He referred to it as a golden era for Nepali literature, where diverse and multi-dimensional literary works have been produced.

Jaya Dev Bhattarai, the Editor of Madhuparka, expressed his appreciation to the literary personalities who have made significant contributions to the publication. He extended his sincere gratitude for their invaluable efforts in shaping Madhuparka into an authentic literary platform of Nepal.
