By Our Correspondent,Waling, June 8: An epidemic of chickenpox has broken out at Kokhe, a village in Ward No. 12 of Waling Municipality in Tanahun district. "During the first phase of diagnosis, 23 children have been found infected with chicken pox. They are receiving treatment and new cases are being searched for," said Kamal Prasad Pandey, chief of the Health Section of Waling Municipality.
A team led by Dr. Suraj Dhakal of Gahrau Primary Hospital has been deployed in the village for the treatment of infected individuals.
The health team is also generating awareness to prevent further spread of the disease.
"Every possible support is being provided to the village and the health team. We are doing our best to prevent the epidemic at the earliest," said Krishna Khand, Mayor of Waling.
Meanwhile, a team from the World Health Organisation (WHO) has also reached the village for further support.
"The villagers are being screened for chicken pox thoroughly from Wednesday morning," said Kabita Tiwari Ghaire, Deputy Mayor of Waling.
