By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May. 2: 'Co-Husband', a documentary film directed by Ganesh Pandey, has won a Bronze Award of 1,000 US dollars as well as funding 100,000 US dollars at the 5th Meihodo International Youth Visual Media Festival in Kyushu, Japan.
The film, which sheds light on the Polyandry system in Nepal, received film funding of 100,000 US dollars equal to Rs. 13 million.
The film also won the best documentary film award at the Gateway International Film Festival held in North Bay, Ontario, Canada.
Director Pandey expressed his delight over the achievement, stating that it was the biggest accomplishment of his career to date.
Sharing his happiness, director Pandey wrote on Facebook, "I have taken today as the day of the greatest achievement in my career. My documentary film Co-Husband won awards simultaneously in Japan and Canada. In the 5th Meihodo International Youth Visual Media Festival in Kyushu, Japan, I also won a film funding of 100,000 US dollars (Rs.13) along with a bronze award of 1,000 US dollars in cash."
"This money was received for the documentary film that I am making now. Likewise, Co-Husband has won the first prize (the best documentary film) at Canada's Gateway Film Festival."
'Co-Husband' was shot in Humla, Karnali Province, and showcases the unique custom of marrying one wife by as many brothers as there are in the house.
The unique custom of marrying one wife still exists in some Himalayan districts of Nepal.
Previously, 'Co-Husband' had won awards in America, India, Russia, Slovakia and other countries.
'Co-Husband', which was released at the Kathmandu International Mountain Festival (KIMFF), had previously won the best award at the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF).
It is produced by Sharda Gaire, chief assistant director and visual editor Ishwar Koirala and assistant director Nripraj Hamal.
Similarly, Ishwar Koirala, Chandraman Dangol, Avinash Lama and Pukar Timilsina shot the documentary.
The music has been composed by Jugal Dangol.
