By A Staff Reporter,Lalitpur, Apr. 30: The South Asian edition of the book ‘Between the Mountain and the Sky: A Mother’s Story of Love, Loss, Healing and Hope’ written by philanthropist Maggie Doyne was launched on Saturday amidst a programme at Hotel Himalaya, Lalitpur.

The South Asian edition has been published by Quixote’s Cove Pvt. Ltd., an independent bookshop which publishes under the imprint ‘Safu’.

‘Between the Mountain and the Sky’ is a memoir which chronicles Doyne’s journey from a teenager who left her comfortable life in New Jersey, USA, to travel the world, to becoming the co-founder of the BlinkNow Foundation and the Kopila Valley Children’s Home in Surkhet.

The book details Doyne’s transformational experience of travelling abroad and witnessing poverty and lack of educational opportunities, and how she felt compelled to take action. As per BlinkNow’s website, Doyne, at the age of 19, used her life savings to build a home for orphaned children which now houses over 40 kids. Similarly, in 2010, BlinkNow opened a school that today serves more than 400 children.

Doyne was named the CNN Hero of the Year in 2015. She was honoured by the Dalai Lama as an Unsung Hero of Compassion in 2014. Her work was championed by Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Nicholas Kristof in a cover story for The New York Times Magazine. In 2012, Maggie shared her story at the Forbes 400 Summit on Philanthropy and in 2013, she received the Forbes Award for Excellence in Education.

The launch programme also featured a conversation between Doyne and blogger Lex Limbu.
