BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Nepalgunj, Apr. 28: After the death of an elderly man from COVID-19-related health complications in Banke, a massive awareness-generating programme has been launched to contain the spread of the virus across the district.
The District COVID-19 Management Committee has intensified the COVID-19 control campaign after border areas saw a growing number of infections.
An 86-year-old man from Raptisonari Rural Municipality-2 in Banke died of the disease while undergoing treatment at Bheri Hospital on Saturday.
Tej Oli, Corona Focal Person of Banke, said that the control campaign has been intensified in light of the prediction that the infection would increase if health standards, physical distance and vaccination campaign were not intensified in time.
He said that vigilance would be upped at the border points and that the already-constructed holding would be kept ready as a preparation to fight the disease.
As of late, most of the infections have been seen among the Nepalis returning home from India.
Similarly, in order to provide treatment to infected patients, COVID ward of Bheri Hospital and other private hospitals in Nepalgunj will also be kept ready, said Oli.
According to Dr. Rajan Pandey, acting chief of Bheri Hospital, an 86-year-old man of Raptisonari-2, died on Saturday and the infected people have been admitted to the hospital sporadically for the past few days and a few of them have returned home after recovery.
According to the District COVID-19 Management Committee, the total number of COVID-19 cases have reached 21,400 while 354 have died of coronavirus so far in Banke.
