By Laxmi Chaudhary,Janakpurdham, Mar. 15: An all-party meeting of Janakpurdham Sub-metropolitan City held on Monday decided to form an 11-member task force with an action plan for the management of waste in the city.

The meeting also decided to form a task force consisting of five to seven members and prepare short-term, medium-term and long-term plans to keep the city clean and run awareness generating programmes.

The sub-metropolis had decided to cooperate with the entire private sectors, business industries, communication sectors and others to manage the city waste. Anuj Bhandari, Dhanusha’s Assistant Chief District Officer, said that there was a lack of awareness among locals in the district.

Stressing the need for generating awareness, he said that the sub-metropolis had already taken action against those spitting after chewing tobacco and beetle nut quid on the walls of the offices of the district administration and district police. Those found spitting were punished by making them do 10 sit-ups holding ears in the public.

Shital Shah, chairperson of Greater Janakpurdham Area Development Council, said that strict implementation of rules and regulations and taking actions against those violating the rules was a must for maintaining cleanliness in Janakpurdham.

The sub-metropolis should not hesitate to take initiative to keep  Janakpurdham clean since it was the matter of prestige connected with the office of the Chief District Officer (CDO) and administrative offices of all three local levels, she said. She also committed to providing all needed assistance from the administration to the sub-metropolis.

The meeting concluded that those throwing garbage on the main roads would be prosecuted and the sub-metropolis should be proactive in collecting garbage. Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah, Deputy Mayor Kishori Shah, and representatives of Janakpurdham Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Youth Clubs, Ward Level Tole Improvement and Cleaning Committees and others were present in the meeting.
