By Arjun Kafle, Syangja, Feb 19: General secretary of the CPN (Maoist Center), Dev Prasad Gurung, has asserted that there was no agreement about the President while inking understanding to form the coalition government.

The general secretary of the main ruling party made it a point that the President should be elected upholding the spirit and essence of the constitution.

Speaking at a press meet organized by the Press Center Nepal in Pokhara today, leader Gurung remarked that problems had emerged in the past as the President was limited to partisan interest that he or she was affiliated before assuming the office of the head of the state.

The President should be patron of the constitution, symbol of national unity and a figure that stands with common values, he said.

He said that Maoist Center was raising issues pertinent to policy and principle in relation to the election of the President, not against any individual aspiring to become the President.

Leader Gurung viewed that although the Maoist Center was for electing a person as the President that can win the confidence of all, rise above partisan politics while in office, it does not mean that the party is against any individual affiliated to a political party.
