blog

Nepali football lovers will be paying for the first time to watch their most-loved football matches on TV. They have to pay an extra amount in addition to their regular cable TV subscription charges.

Media Hub Pvt. Ltd. has bought exclusive digital rights to broadcast the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Nepal. Media Hub has decided to charge an extra amount to cover its expenses by implementing a pay-per-view system for the first time in Nepal.

To watch all 64 matches of the World Cup of Football, Rs. 565 inclusive of VAT should be paid to DTH, IPTV, or digital cable operators. The above-mentioned price is valid for a single setup box only. It means people with multiple TVs have to pay for every setup box in case they want to watch the World Cup on every TV screen available at their home.

The cable or IPTV operators who have acquired the licence from the Media Hub can only broadcast World Cup matches. So far, NetTV, ViaTV, Clear TV, SIM TV, Sky TV, iTV and Dish Home TV have signed up to broadcast the world cup matches.

People can purchase the World Cup package through digital wallets such as eSewa and Khalti, as well as IPTV and cable operators.

Nevertheless, Himalayan TV will broadcast four World Cup matches free of charge. Football fans can watch the opening, two semifinals, and final matches on the the Himalaya TV channel.

The live telecast of the World Cup was uncertain in Nepal after a charge sheet had been registered in the Supreme Court demanding free-of-cost viewing.

But the apex court verdict on Wednesday allowed Media Hub to charge money for the World Cup broadcast, ending the uncertainty of live telecasts in Nepal.

Media Hub has not allowed viewers to stream World Cup matches on mobile or OTT platforms. There will be four time slots for the Qatar World Cup matches in Nepal: 3:45 p.m., 6:45 p.m., 9:45 p.m., and 12:45 a.m. The knockout matches will start at 8:45 p.m.
