Kathmandu, July 29: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has stressed the need for developing Nepal as an information technology (IT) hub.

Stating that IT has been an integral part of people's daily life apart from its use in government and private sectors, the Minister said, "The government is always active in the development and expansion of IT. There is a need to link its latest development with the country's whole development. Like in hydropower, tourism and commercial agriculture, the country should be developed as an IT hub."

The Minister was inaugurating 'Mero Beema', the country's insurance aggregator amid a function here Friday.

Maintaining that government offices were getting technology friendly, he, also the government's spokesperson, hoped that banks and financial sectors of the country would gradually go digital.

At another event, the Minister underscored the need for creating job opportunities at home by utilising available resources. He made this remark at an event organised here to honour literary persons. Various 14 artists and literary personalities were honoured on the programme. (RSS)
