blog

Kathmandu, July 27: Actor Bhuwan KC has been appointed chairman of Nepal Film Development Board (FDB).A Cabinet meeting held on Monday appointed actor KC to the post. He was picked from among 10 contestants.  Arun Kumar Pradhan, Deepak Shrestha, Naresh Kumar Paudel, Nirmal Raj Dhakal, Manish Pandit, Samjhana Upreti Rauniar, Suchitra Shrestha, Sunil Kumar Pokharel and Sushma Karki were among other candidates vying for the coveted post. But KC beat them all.

KC had also tried to become FDB chair in the past. But his strategies worked only this time. He had joined the Nepali Congress by quitting the CPN-UML with the sole aim of getting the appointment, many people in the film industry argued.

Actor KC has started his career as a singer for Radio Nepal, but later he shifted to silver screen and has over 100 films to his credit since his first film Juni’s release in 1981. He emerged as a successful film actor from Samjhana released a year later in 1982.

Of late, he has also emerged as a successful producer and has also directed Dreams with his son Anamol KC doing its lead role.  Kusume Rumal , Santaan, Tilhari, Kanyadan, Chino, Trishna , Dui Thopa Aansu , Dakshina , Raanko, Karodpati, Nepali Babu, Superstar, Dui Thopa Aasu  are some of his successful films.

He has been appointed as the chairman of the board for a term of two years. The post had remained vacant after former chairman Dayram Dahal completed his two-year tenure on June 4.   KC joined the UML after the first Constituent Assembly election with a hope of getting a ticket in the second CA polls from Kathmandu Constituency-1. However, he was denied the opportunity.

In the recent local elections, KC was announced as the candidate of the mayor in Kathmandu Metropolitan City from Unnat Loktantra Party, led by Swagat Nepal. But KC rejected the offer citing technical reasons and his busy schedule.  Later in May, KC joined the Nepali Congress, receiving the party membership from Prime Minister and NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
