Certificates of completion of the training were awarded to the participants of the Primary Teacher Training Programme (PTTP), teachers of Bright Horizon Children’s Home, a charity school, and early childhood teachers from 10 schools in Lalitpur.

26 students received the PTTP certification, 18 teachers and school leaders of BHCH got the certificates while 25 early childhood teachers from 10 schools in Lalitpur received their certificates in the ceremony held on July 17, according to a press release of the Rato Bangala Foundation.

The Primary Teacher Training Program (PTTP) has been running for 20 years and provides in-service and pre-service teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to understand children and make learning fun and meaningful to them.

The training runs for a year and is a joint effort of Kathmandu University, Bank Street College of Education in New York, and the Rato Bangala Foundation, according to the press release.

Altogether 386 students have graduated so far with a PTTP degree and are happily engaged in making classrooms and schools better for children.

Bright Horizon Children’s Home (BHCH) is a charity school run for orphans and semi orphan children who are economically disadvantaged. The BHCH teachers and leaders received year-long training and have changed their teaching practices.

Early Childhood Development (ECD) is the youngest program at RBF, and this is done with funds from RBPOP.

The program is run in collaboration with the Lalitpur Metropolitan City.

In Lalitpur, there are 40 community schools, and we aim to reach all the schools through ECD, said the press release.

The main objective of this program is to teach ECD teachers how to run the classroom, different methods of child-centered learning, classroom management and also infrastructure management in the classroom. It also focuses on using available resources at best to make the learning experience more practical and fun, according to the press release.

Established 30 years ago and 20 years ago, respectively, Rato Bangala School and Rato Bangala Foundation have been working to spread child-centered, skill-based education in Nepal. For the past five years, RBF and RBPOP have focused on early childhood education with the belief that fostering young children is the most important contribution to nation-building, read the press release.
