Ethical code enforced for immigration employees at TIA

blog

Kathmandu, July 11: The Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has enforced a moral code of conduct for its employees beginning Friday.

Office Chief Bishnu Prasad Koirala said the ethical code has been implemented aiming to increase the effectiveness of the relevant services. The code encourages relevant employees to behave with service seekers as per the international values, principles and standards of immigration administration.

It also aims to encourage employees to be responsible and sensitive to existing national laws, and to social and cultural values, according to Chief Koirala.

With the implementation of additional ethical rules for the employees, the immigration services are expected to be more prompt, impartial, transparent, predictable and results-oriented. "We hope that employees will deliver in a way that passengers could feel the real improvements in the services," he observed.

According to the Department of Immigration, the code requires staff to at least say "have a nice journey" to the outgoing passengers, and "welcome to Nepal" to those entering the country, while limiting questions to only those that are necessary.

The use of respectful language when addressing passengers departing for Gulf countries for jobs by refraining from rude behaviour with them has been included in the code. It also morally binds them to speak politely and demonstrate courtesy while communicating with passengers.

A survey has been in place so that a passenger could promptly provide feedback regarding services received on 15 points about the office. The participation in the survey is voluntary, it was shared.(RSS)
