700,000 saplings to be planted in Bara

Bara, July 23 : Division Forest Office in Simara, Bara district, has set a target to plant 700,000 saplings this year. Anil Sah, planning officer of the division, said that there was a programme to distribute saplings of different species produced by seven nurseries under the District Forest Office.

He informed that the one-to-two-year-old saplings are ready for plantation in several electoral constituencies of the district – Tamagadhi, Simraungadh, Dumarwana, Kalaiya, Feta, Bariyarpur and Simra. Until now 25 per cent of the saplings have been distributed.

Four community and partnership forests have also decided to plant saplings this year.

Gadhimai Partnership Forest Management Committee Pathalaiya, Halkhoria Partnership Forest Management Committee Dumarwana, Sahajnath Partnership Forest Management Committee and Tamagadhi Partnership Forest Management Committee have also planned to do the same this year.

Yogendra Raut Barai, of Bariyapur nursery, informed that 14 to 15 people are taking seedlings from the nursery every day. The nursery has distributed around 200,000 plants of herbs such as Amla, Bell, Ritha, Sisau and Masala plants.

Shivji Prasad Sah, chairman of Gadhimai Partnership Forest Management Group, distributed free saplings of various species including fruits plants to the residents of 15 villages under the partnership. "We are committed to creating a green district and working to minimise air pollution," he said.

Last year, the Division Forest Office distributed 600,000 saplings which were planted in 16 local municipalities of the district. Divisional Forest Chief Binod Singh said that the plants of different species produced by seven nurseries under the Forest Office were distributed.

He informed that 32,000 saplings have been planted so far in about 20 hectares of unregistered open land in the forest area.
