blog

BY AMAR RAJ NAHARKI Tanahun, July 7: Yuvina Thapa, a 4-year-old student of Basanta Basic School in Sera, Byas Municipality-11, was injured after she fell into the Buldi River on June 16.

Yuvina, who was critically injured after being swept away by the river, is now undergoing treatment at Fishtail Hospital in Pokhara.

Not only Yuvina but also other students are always at a risk of being swept away while crossing the river during rainy season. They need a guardian to cross the river which has no bridge.

The students have to risk their life while crossing the river on their own, said locals. Madhav Khanal, principal of Basanta Basic School, said that 45 students of the school have been facing difficulties in crossing the river.

Not just the students of Basanta School, more than 200 students studying in Satyawati Secondary School, Nirmal Secondary School,

Jaldevi Secondary School of Damauli, Barahi Secondary School in Farakchaur of Byas Municipality-11, Siddheshwor Secondary School in Siddheshwor of Byas Municipality-12 and other private schools have been affected as there is no bridge in Sera, Ghasikuwa and Beltariphant, said principal Khanal.

Principal Khanal said that students’ education is hampered every year in the months of June, July and August due to the river. Ramesh Acharya, a farmer of Byas Municipality-11, said that the concerned bodies have not paid any attention to the problem facing by students and farmers while transporting agricultural goods in lack of

bridge. Since the locals lack access to political power, a bridge on the main road to travel to district headquarter Damauli, could not be constructed, said Acharya.

Acharya said that they had to cross the river to sell milk and vegetables at two places connecting Sera and Polyang of Ward No. 11 and Ghasikuwa of Ward No. 12.

Bhanubhakta Soti from Khanal village of Byas Municipality-11 said that the residents of Tanahunsur,

Farakchaur, Beltar, Polyang, Jimmal Gaun, Bordhan, Sera, Mulpani and other villages in the area have been affected.
