Gandaki, June 26 (RSS): A team of media persons reporting on parliamentary affairs in Gandaki made an on-site tour of the parliamentary activities taking place in the Sudan Paschim Provincial Assembly.
The observation visit was organized
by the Parliamentary Journalists Forum Gandaki and with the support of the
Ministry of Law, Communication, and Provincial Assembly Affairs of Gandaki
Province. On the occasion, the members of the visiting team obtained
information about the parliamentary activities through discussion with the speaker
and other stakeholders.
During the discussion on Saturday,
Speaker of the Sudan Paschim Provincial Assembly Arjun Bahadur Thapa shared his
experience of running the Assembly, stating that all the bills have been
brought to the committee after extensive discussions. He however said that the
implementation of the law has not been as effective as expected.
Stating that priority has been
given to taking the parliament to the people, he informed that programs have
been conducted to inform the students about the parliamentary activities and
law-making process.
Minister for Internal Affairs and
Law Dr Rana Bahadur Rawal said that the transfer of power should have been done
according to the spirit of federalism but it has not been done yet. He said
that the failure to formulate some federal laws has affected the implementation
of the laws in the provinces.
Chairperson of the Parliamentary
Journalists Forum Gandaki Amrit Subedi briefed about the parliamentary
activities taking place in the Gandaki Provincial Assembly and the relationship
between the parliament and the media.
Earlier, similar discussions and
interactions were held in Lumbini and Karnali, he said. According to Rohit Raj
Parajuli, secretary of the forum, the team, which has been on a study and
observation tour since last Thursday, is scheduled to return to Pokhara
today.
