BY A STAFF REPORTER Kathmandu, June 21: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has wished for happiness, peace and good health to all Nepalis on the occasion of International Yoga Day. 

In her message on the occasion of International Yoga Day, President Bhandari said, “It is a matter of great joy for all of us that the whole world has embraced yoga, which is integrally linked with the ancient civilization and philosophy of life of Nepal.”

President Bhandari said, “Yoga is the practice of strengthening one's physical, mental and spiritual health. Therefore, yoga is considered not only as a physical exercise but also as an act of meditation." 

President Bhandari further said, "It is believed that yoga, which is practiced in a certain discipline and manner, can boost the body, develop immunity and motivate the person towards positive thinking.” The contribution of Nepali civilization to the development of yoga has been extensively enlightened by our scholars and yoga gurus, said President Bhandari. 

Yoga has a direct presence in the architecture, painting and sculpture associated with our social and cultural lifestyle. Therefore, there is a need to develop yoga as a part of our education and to strengthen study and research on it, added President Bhandari. 

At the call of the United Nations, every year since 2015, June 21 has been observed all over the world as the International Yoga Day. This year, the day is being celebrated with a theme 'Yoga for Humanity'.
