NC wins mayor posts in Sundarbazar, Madhya Nepal municipalities

Lamjung, May 19 (RSS): Nepali Congress (NC) candidates have emerged victorious in the mayoral posts in the Sundarbazaar and Madhya Nepal municipalities in the district. The local level elections were held recently.

According to the Election Office, Lamjung, Krishna Prasad Koirala of the NC who fought the election from the five-party alliance won the election by getting 6,641 votes against 6,036 by his nearest competitor from the CPN (UML), Bhim Bahadur Gurung.

The post of deputy-mayor has been won by the UML. Party candidate Bhawani KC finished the race with 5,018 to beat her rival from the CPN (Unified Socialist), Ram Babu Adhikari who obtained 2,204.  Adhikari contested the election on behalf of the alliance. 

Similarly, Ramesh Kumar Pandey has been reelected mayor in Madhya Nepal by securing 6,551 and his rival from the UML, Raj Kumar Shrestha, got 6,214, according to the district election officer Durga Prasad Bhurtel.  Shrestha is the outgoing deputy mayor in the municipality. 

Likewise, Sita Gurung of UML has been elected deputy mayor. She got 6,416 to leave behind her nearest competitor by 1,342 in the final counts. Upendra Adhikari of the CPN (Maoist Center) secured 5,074.
