Heavy rainfall blocks highways, disrupts life across eastern Nepal
Life across eastern and parts of central Nepal has been badly affected by continuous heavy rainfall caused by the lingering effect of Cyclone Montha. The rain has triggered landslides and flooding, completely blocking the Koshi Highway and disrupting daily life in many areas. While eastern and central regions are seeing more intense rainfall, the western parts are experiencing only light and scattered showers.
Unseasonal snowfall and rain leave tourists stranded in Khumbu
Thousands of tourists have been stranded in the Khumbu region due to unseasonal snowfall and continuous rain during the peak trekking season. For the past four days, bad weather has disrupted air and road travel, leaving around 5,500 tourists and their guides stuck in different parts of the region. According to Lukla-based tourism entrepreneur Toya Shrestha, more than 600 tourists are currently waiting at Tenzing-Hillary Airport for flights, while many others are stuck in Surke, where road vehicles can reach.
Rift widens in NC over general convention date
Tensions within the Nepali Congress (NC) have escalated further after the two factions failed to reach a consensus regarding the date of the party’s 15th General Convention. While the establishment faction led by President Sher Bahadur Deuba wants to hold the general convention only after the upcoming elections scheduled for March 5, 2026, the rival faction led by Dr. Shekhar Koirala and general secretary duo Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma insist that the convention should be held by December this year. The dispute resulted in yet another postponement of the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Friday.

Tourist buried by landslide
A foreign tourist was buried by a landslide that took place in the Manaslu region. The mishap took place near Chumanubri-3 where 54-year-old Katerina Raskova from the Czech Republic was buried, her trekking guide Ramesh Bhatta informed.
15 tourists rescued from Hidden Valley in Dhaulagiri trek
Twelve Nepalese and three British tourists were stranded after the trekking route was blocked by snowfall since Monday night. They were trekking from Italian base camp in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 in Myagdi to Marfa in Gharpajhong Rural Municipality-2 in Mustang.
14 trekkers including three Austrians missing in Saribung pass
Three Austrians and 11 Nepali trekkers have gone missing since Tuesday following the heavy snowfall, Chief District Officer of Mustang Bishnu Prasad Bhusal said. The Saribung pass is located at an altitude of 6,000 metres from the sea level.
