The government has announced that elections for one-third members of Nepal’s National Assembly will be held on January 25, 2026, as the terms of 19 members are due to expire on March 4, 2026. The decision was endorsed at a recent cabinet meeting. According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the term-expiring members include eight from the CPN-UML, seven from the CPN (Maoist Centre), one each from the CPN (Unified Socialist), Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, and Janata Samajwadi Party, as well as one nominated member.
Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj has added four new dialysis machines, providing much-needed relief to kidney patients, who had to wait for a long time for their turn to get treatment. A rescue team has been deployed to assist 15 people, including three British women trekkers, who were stranded while descending towards Marpha of Gharpajhong Rural Municipality–2 after circling Mount Dhaulagiri. Orange production in Syangja district is expected to increase this year, thanks to favourable weather conditions and reduced pest infestation, according to local agricultural authorities. Eight years ago, oranges were cultivated on around 850 hectares of land in the district. Today, the cultivation area has expanded significantly to 2,350 hectares, said Ajay Adhikari, chief of the Syangja Unit of the National Citrus Super Zone under the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernisation Project.
