Name in PR list can be withdrawn and replaced, says EC

Kathmandu, Jan 3: Any candidate included in the closed list under the proportional representation system for the upcoming House of Representatives member election can withdraw his/her name within the specified time. And for it, the concerned party will be given time to replace the candidate.

The Election Commission has stated that the nominations received from 64 political parties are currently being verified.

According to the spokesperson of the Commission, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the list will be verified and the concerned party notified to make correction, if any, by January 11. If any candidate included in the revised list wants to withdraw his/her name, time will be given until January 12. The Commission will inform the concerned party about the candidate who has applied to be withdrawn and the party will be allowed to send the name of another candidate.

The closed list will be made public on January 18 for any protests or claims, which will be investigated and the final list shall be published on February 3.  (RSS)
