Goddess On The Hill
Kalinchok is one of the holiest shrines of Nepal located in Dolakha district at the height of 3810 metres (IHDP, 1984) above sea level. On the way to Kalinchok first, we come to a pond, which has great cultural importance and is said to be the head of a giant snake (Nag) of the other two ponds located inside the Dolakha town, further on we come to a great stone and a tall tree attached to it. At the bottom is a hole which is said to be "Dharmako Dhoka" (the sacred door). It is believed that the sinners cannot pass through this door. After that, we reached the final destination, a beautiful spot known as Kalinchok.
Weak Local Levels May Undermine Federalism
A decade ago, New Delhi had held the Forum of Federation summit. The Forum was hosted by the Government of India through its Inter-State Council Secretariat- an apex constitutional mechanism created for grappling with conflicts and tensions between the federal government and states that is chaired by the prime minister of India. The summit had brought together around 1300 experts and practitioners from 116 countries with several heads of states including the Indian prime minister and the Swiss president.

India's badminton team on Sunday stunned 14-time champions Indonesia at the men's finals for a historic win at the 2022 Thomas Cup. The significance of the title is quite cherisable for a team that had never made it to the finals in the event's 73-year history.
Mothers, daughters elected ward members
Two pairs of Dalit mother and daughter have been elected as ward members of Simkot Rural Municipality in Humla district from separate parties. Four of them were elected from Nepali Congress (NC), CPN Maoist Centre and CPN-UML. Jagat Bahadur Poudel, chief election officer said, “Coincidently, two pairs of Dalit mother and daughter of different parties, has been elected in the same rural municipality in the local level election.”
Frankfurt win Europa League
Eintracht Frankfurt’s 42-year wait for a European trophy is over. The German club ended its title drought with a penalty shootout win over Rangers in the Europa League final on Wednesday. Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp came up with a big save at the end of extra time and another in the shootout to help give Frankfurt the 5-4 win on penalties. The game ended 1-1 after regulation and extra time.
Nepal lose Women’s T20I Series 3-0
Nepal’s dream to win the women’s maiden T20 International Series at home soil dashed after suffering third defeat at the hands of Uganda at TU International Cricket Stadium, Kritipur on Thursday. The East African nation Uganda notched up a six wickets victory over the home team to clinch the series 3-0. Captain Rubina Chhetri conceded low scoring was the main cause of Nepal’s defeat.
Chaudhary becomes first woman mayor in Saptari
Gita Chaudhary of Surunga Municipality in Saptari has set an example that woman can win the election if the party give them ticket to contest election by getting elected mayor. A Nepali Congress (NC) candidate, Chaudhary won mayoral post in the municipality by garnering 7,292 votes. Similarly, NC's Rudra Bahadur Karki secured the post of deputy mayor with 6,275 votes. Chaudhary's closest rival Ram Narayan Chaudhary and Karki's Sunita Kumari Mukhiya both from CPN (Unified Socialist) got 4,217 and 3,998 votews respectively.
Dhimal community resumes Jatri festival
Jatri - the main festival for the Dhimals living in the Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts - has restarted after a break for the local election. The festival begins every year on Baisakh 2 – one day after Nepal celebrates the beginning of its new year. The Dhimals begin the festival by praying at the Maharajsthan shrine at Rajarani, Bhogateni in Morang. Bhogateni is considered the place from where the Dhimal ethnicity originated.
Panta appears at Cannes
Actress Surakshya Panta attended the premiere of The Eight Mountains at the 75th Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday. Gowned in Surakshya, who made her Cannes debut this year, looked stunning. She wore the red gown designed by Tenzin Tseten Bhutia at the festival. Sharing a photo on her Facebook account, Surakshya expressed how her day was.
Voice Cup USA, Dance Cup USA to be held in Nepal
Two reality shows Mero Voice Cup USA and Mero Dance Cup USA will be held in Nepal soon. The official announcement of the two reality shows were made amid a programme in the capital on Wednesday. The fourth edition of Mero Dance Cup and the second edition of Mero Voice Cup are currently being auditioned in the United States and Canada. Selected top 12 contestants will give their performance in Nepal for the first time. The finals of both programmes will be held in the United States, informed the orgrnisers. Earlier, the shows were organised in the United States.
15th Republic Day to be marked for three days
The government has decided to mark 15th Republic Day for three days from May 28 to 30. A meeting of the Republic Day 2079 Main Ceremony Committee held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Thursday decided to celebrate the Republic Day with a three-day programme.
Five stone sculptures arriving from US
The Embassy of Nepal in Washington D.C. has sent five stone sculptures to the Department of Archaeology of the Nepal government via UPS Freight Forwarding. Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, the Embassy informed that five stone sculptures of historical and religious importance dating back to the 10th-to-14th century are sent to their hometown.
NC wins in municipalities,UML in rural municipalities in Syangja
The results of Local Level Election 2022 held on May 13 in all 11 local levels of Syangja have been made public. Among five municipalities and six rural municipalities, Nepali Congress (NC) won the chief posts in four municipalities and a rural municipality while Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) clinched the posts in five rural municipalities and a municipality. CPN-UML won the chief posts in two municipalities, including Syangja’s headquarters Putalibazar Municipality, and five rural municipalities in the 2017 local election. Since 1997, CPN-UML had never lost the election from Putalibazar. However, NC won the mayoral post of the municipality in this year’s election.
