Tanahun/Humla, Oct. 14: Continuous rains lasting for several days have caused floods and landslides across the country, damaging roads and obstructing the smooth vehicular movements.
Many commuters returning home and work places from different parts of the country after celebrating Dashain have been stranded after the roads were damaged by the floods and landslides in many places.
After a road section in Shring Path in Bhimad, Tanahun, collapsed, the vehicular movement in four districts have come to a complete standstill.
The obstruction has affected not only commuters of Tanahun district but also of three other neighbouring districts –Syangja, Palpa and Nawalparasi.
While many commuters have been stranded along the road, a few have started walking to their destinations in lack of other options.
“There is an alternative route along Bhimad-Rishingpatan-Ghiring Deurali.
However, landslides have been reported in more than half a dozen places of the road section as well,” said Anjan Pariyar, a local of Ghiring.
Meanwhile, Ghiring Rural Municipality chairman Hem Bahadur Thapa informed that they were removing debris with the help of excavators and managing passage for the stranded commuters.
Similarly, landslides in more than 40 places of the Karnali corridor along Humla and Bajura districts have obstructed vehicular movements.
“We have reported more than 40 landslides in between Kawadi and Salisalla along the corridor. I went to inspect the places.
In many places, the road has been damaged severely and it will be difficult to repair the road immediately,” said Lalkesh Jaisi, chairman of Tanjakot Rural Municipality.
According to the data from the Department of Roads (DoR), more than 11 obstructions in different highways of the country were reported until 2:15 pm on Thursday.
Similarly, on Thursday, vehicular movements resumed one-way by removing obstructions in 49 different road sections across the country by the time, showed the data from DoR.
The data also shows that obstructions were completely removed in 156 different road sections as of Thursday afternoon.
