By Guna Bahadur Roka, Sulikot, June 5: The Gorkha Museum, which preserves and displays materials of historical and archaeological significance, is currently hosting a photo exhibition featuring various important heritage sites of the country.
The week-long exhibition, organised by the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Museum and inaugurated last Saturday, has been attracting increasing attention from students and the general public.
Jay Narayan Karki, Chief of the Gorkha Palace Museum, said that more than 50 photographs depicting Nepal's ancient and medieval history are on display at the exhibition.
According to him, the exhibition features photographs of historical and cultural heritage sites, including Gorkha Durbar, Nuwakot Durbar, Palpa Durbar, and the Ram Janaki Temple in Janakpur, Lumbini, the Seto Machhindranath Jatra, and the Nine-Storied Temple.
The exhibition aims to provide information about World Heritage Sites as well as historical and archaeological heritage sites across the country, said Museum Chief Karki.
He added that students from various local schools and colleges, including those within Gorkha Municipality, have been participating in the exhibition.
"The inclusion of heritage images related to school and college curricula has generated special interest among students and teachers," said Karki. "The exhibition is free for students, while other visitors can view it by paying the regular museum entrance fee."
More than 1,000 people have visited the exhibition since it began. According to the museum, the participation of students from various schools has been particularly notable.
The Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Museum regularly organises such exhibitions at museums across the country with the objective of raising public awareness about Nepal's historical, cultural, and archaeological heritage. This year, Gorkha was selected as one of the exhibition venues.
