Kathmandu, May 22: Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal has said that the government is ready to address the issues raised by construction entrepreneurs.
In today's meeting of the Infrastructure Development Committee under the House of Representatives, Minister Lamsal acknowledged that the construction sector is currently affected by financial pressure, price increases, and payment issues, and urged entrepreneurs to confidently engage in their work.
In the meeting, the construction entrepreneurs complained that they had not received payment for completed construction projects, costs had increased due to excessive price hikes, and there were complications in extending deadlines.
In response, Minister Lamsal stated that the government is striving to address the issue through legal and policy reforms.
The Infrastructure Development Minister clarified that delays and substandard work in the construction sector are unacceptable and instructed businesspeople to complete the work on time as per the procurement agreement.
He said, "Businesspeople must create their own action plans and proceed ahead with their work responsibly."
Minister Lamsal stated that the increase in prices of diesel and other construction materials has greatly affected the construction projects, and the government is serious about the problems of the entrepreneurs.
According to him, issues related to price adjustment and extension of deadlines are being studied based on the central bank's indicators. He stated that if necessary, the problems will also be addressed by amending laws for some projects.
Minister Lamsal mentioned that the state and construction businesses are development partners and that development projects can only be completed on time through coordination and cooperation.
However, he warned that the state would take a firm stance against businessmen who are negligent and unnecessarily delay projects.
