By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 22: The Film Development Board Nepal has distributed official identity cards to film professionals from different fields of the Nepali film industry.
During a special programme held at the Board, Chairman Dinesh DC handed over the identity cards to the recipients.
According to the Board, 122 film professionals received identity cards in the first phase. The recipients were placed in four categories including Honorary, Special, Distinguished, and Film Professional.
The Board said the distribution was not only about providing identity cards but also about officially recognising film professionals and strengthening their institutional connection with the government.
The list included actors, directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, musicians, singers, writers, lyricists, choreographers, action directors, make-up artists, distributors and exhibitors. Under the Honorary category, veteran filmmaker Tulsi Ghimire, actress Niruta Singh and choreographer Kamal Rai received identity cards as Distinguished Film Professionals (Honorary).
The Special category included Milan Chamling Rai (Milan Chams). Fifty creators received cards under the Distinguished category, including Bipana Thapa, Renu Chaudhary, Umesh Khadka and Surendra Bahadur KC. Senior technical contributors such as Ganesh Prasad Subedi, Kuber Sharma and Jairam Thapa were also recognised.
Under the Film Professional category, 68 creators received identity cards. Among them were Ambika Sapkota, Wilson Bikram Rai, Uttar Lama, Krishna Prasad Aryal and Kshitija Shakya.
One of the main highlights of the programme was the honour given to Tulsi Ghimire, whose contribution to Nepali cinema as a director, writer and creator has been widely recognised.
The Board also honoured Niruta Singh for her important role in Nepali cinema, while Kamal Rai was recognised for his prolonged contribution to film choreography.
