By Our Correspondent,Lekhnath, May 21: Writer and politician Mohan Bikram Singh has been selected for the Gokul Literature Award 2082.
The award is given by Gandaki Sahitya Sangam and includes a cash prize of Rs. 40,000 along with a certificate of honour.
The award will be presented at a special ceremony to be held in Pokhara on May 23 on the occasion of the 97th Gokul Jayanti.
According to organisation secretary Narayan Marasini, Singh was born in 1935 in Okharbot, Pyuthan. He has published around a dozen books, including poetry, epics, literary criticism, and fiction.
The award was established in 1995 to encourage writers working in socialist realist literature. Singh has been active in progressive literature for the past six decades.
The selection was made based on the recommendation of a three-member committee led by committee member Shobhakant Gaudel, with Dr. Krishna Raj Adhikari and Dr. Yadunandan Upadhyay as members.
Previous recipients of the Gokul Literature Award include Kewalpure Kisan, Khagendra Sangraula, Govinda Bhatta, Shyam Prasad Sharma, Ramesh Bikal, Ninu Chapagain, Mohan Vaidya (Chaitanya), Anandadev Bhatta, Ghanshyam Dhakal, Modnath Prasrit, Harihar Khanal, Jeevan Sharma, Dr. Rishiraj Baral, and Ishwar Chandra Gyawali.
