Two ward chairs in Salyan sit for SEE

By Pratik Ichchhuk Sharma,Salyan. Apr. 5: Two ward chairs in Salyan have appeared in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE). 

Ward Chair of Darma Rural Municipality–5, Sudip KC, and Ward Chair of Bagchaur Municipality–5, Jogendra Oli, are sitting in this year’s SEE.

Ward chair KC of Darma–5 has resumed his studies after 20 years. He is sitting in the SEE at the age of 40 from the Nepal Rastriya Secondary School examination centre in Darmakot.

KC had to discontinue his education due to family problems and responsibilities. “I always had the desire to study, but circumstances did not allow it,” he said. 

He said that being able to take part in the examination feels like an achievement. He added that the presence of a people’s representative at the examination centre has encouraged other students as well.

Similarly, ward chair of Bagchaur Municipality–5, Jogendra Oli, is also sitting the SEE at the age of 45. A student at Shahid Bharat Smriti Secondary School, Oli, is taking the examination from the Saraswati Secondary School examination centre in Pedikhola. 

Oli, who passed Grade 9 last year, is also the chairperson of the school management committee of the same school where he studies.

Speaking about the importance of education, he said, “Education is the primary foundation for transforming one’s life. Neither age nor responsibility can stop learning.”

In Salyan, a total of 4,193 candidates have appeared in this year’s SEE, including regular, technical stream, and grade improvement categories. 

Out of 4,397 registered candidates, 204 were absent, according to Sher Bahadur Roka, Chief of the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Salyan.

To conduct the examinations, a total of 427 personnel, including centre superintendents, assistant superintendents, invigilators and office assistants, have been mobilised. Additionally, 15 security personnel have been deployed at each examination centre to ensure the exams are conducted in a fair, safe and orderly manner, the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Salyan, stated.
