Kathmandu Pragya Kunja Theatre Week kicks off

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 31: The Theatre Week 2082 orgnised by Kathmandu Pragya Kunja School began in the capital on Sunday. The school has been oganising the Festival since 2013 AD. 

The inaugural ceremony was graced by renowned artists Rabi Giri and Saroj Khanal as the chief guests. Both distinguished personalities, who have devoted nearly half a century to theatre, television, and the silver screen, inspired the audience with their presence and appreciation for young performers. 

While addressing the audience, Khanal shared that the play 'Sophia Ra Kale' deeply touched his heart. He reflected on his own childhood experience, mentioning that he too had personal interests and dreams, while his parents had envisioned a different career path for him. "When children are encouraged to pursue their own dreams, success naturally follows," he said. 

Rabi Giri appreciated the school for organising such meaningful activities.

Both guests further promised to remain part of the Theatre Week in the days ahead as audience members. 

To begin the week, Grade 3 students presented three plays, 'Dukhi Rajkumari,' 'Sophia Ra Kale,' and 'Ful Ko Bhasa.' Their performances reflected confidence, teamwork, and creative expression, setting a vibrant tone for the rest of the festival. 

Altogether, the Theatre Week will feature 17 plays being performed by students from Grades 3 to 9, highlighting the school’s commitment to holistic development through arts and performance. During the opening ceremony, two parents who have long been associated with theatre, Tanka Chaulagain and Kalpana Thapa, were felicitated by the Board of Directors in recognition of their contributions to the theatre. 

The event took place at the Nepal Film Campus Theatre, Pingalasthan, adding a professional theatrical atmosphere to the celebration. The Theatre Week will conclude on April 4, marking the end of a vibrant celebration of creativity and learning. 

It is claimed that the Theatre Week will be a meaningful platform for students to explore creativity, build confidence, and celebrate the art of storytelling.
