Oli, Solu to be awarded

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 26: The Nepali Kalasahitya Dot Com Foundation has announced two awards for the year 2082 (BS).

According to a press release issued by the Foundation's chairperson Momila Joshi on Wednesday, the 'Yogeshwar Literary Award', carrying a purse of Rs. 25,000, will be presented to writer Purna Oli of Rukum West. 

The award was established by Rajeshwar Karki, the president of the Yogeshwar Memorial Foundation, in memory of his father Yogeshwar Karki.

The decision was made by a meeting of the Talent Selection Committee held in Kathmandu on March 24, recognising Oli’s literary contributions as well as his active role in the social sector.

Similarly, the Gregory Art and Culture Award, carrying a purse of Rs. 20,000 and established in memory of late American anthropologist Prof. Dr. Gregory G. Maskarinec, will be presented to Manuhang Kirati Solu (Yuman Khaling) from Solukhumbu. The award is given in recognition of contributions to the promotion of art, literature, and culture.

The Foundation stated that both awards were established with the objective of encouraging creators from outside the Kathmandu Valley. The awards will be presented during a special literary festival to be held in Solukhumbu on April 11.

Previously, the 'Yogeshwar Literary Award' has been conferred on Dr. Krishnaraj D.C., Amar Giri, Krishnabhushan Bal, Usha Sherchan, Banamali Nirakar, Mukunda Prayas, Dilip Shah, Krishnaraj Oliya, Padmaraj Joshi, Purichandra Devkota, Dr. Madhusudan Giri, D.B. Tuhuro, Pushkar Athak Regmi, Bimal Baidya, and Amar Shah.

The previous recipients of the 'Gregory Art and Culture Award' include Sher Bahadur Adhikari, Purna Sameer Mahatara, Khadananda Chaulagain, Manohar Lamichhane, Nabin Bivas, Rajendra Gopal Singh, Bharat Gurung, and Manlal Oli, read the statement.
