By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 23: Hindi film director, producer, and actor Ramesh Sippy is set to grace the inaugural ceremony of the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) as a special guest.
According to NIFF President KP Pathak, it has been confirmed that he will travel to Nepal to attend the opening programme as a special guest.
President Pathak further added that director Sippy will also share his experiences in Hindi cinema, his filmmaking journey, and insights with Nepali filmmakers and audiences during the festival.
Pathak said, “We proposed inviting him to NIFF, as the experience of such a distinguished personality in Indian filmmaking would certainly help Nepali filmmakers gain insight into the Bollywood and strengthen ties between Nepali and Indian creators and he accepted our invitation.”
Ramesh Sippy has directed more than a dozen films. The blockbuster Bollywood film Sholay, regarded as a milestone in Indian cinema, was directed by him.
His most recent directorial film, Shimla Mirchi, was released in 2020. He has also produced dozens of films and acted in a few.
In films directed by Sippy, Bollywood stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Mithun Chakraborty, Rishi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Dharmendra, and Rajesh Khanna have appeared.
NIFF held a ‘Short Film Evening’ as a pre-event programme at Kantipur Theatre on Friday.
At the event, short films Julungo, Bare Trees in the Mist, Junko, and Chiso Ghar, which had previously been awarded at various international film festivals and past editions of NIFF, were screened.
The ninth edition of NIFF will be held in Kathmandu from April 2. According to the organisers, 88 films from 40 countries will be screened at the festival, along with 10 interactive programmes on various topics.
