Nepal Police nabbed looters by running Operation Snatching

Kathmandu, Jan 29: The Nepal Police nabbed the members of a looting gang led by Binaya Tamang by conducting 'Operation Snatching' on Wednesday night.

The 'Operation Snatching' was completed at 3:00 am on Thursday after beginning at 6:00 pm on Wednesday.     

Police opened fire to arrest the 10 members of the gang at Mulpani area in Kathmandu, the District Police Range confirmed by organizing a news conference on Thursday. Members of the gang were found looting individuals' property in different areas of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur districts.     

Those arrestees include Binaya, 23, Salon Tamang, 20, Rajib Bhandari, 18, and Pema Tamang, 29, of Kavre and Ayan Majhi, 24, and Sabin Majhi, 32, of Sindhuli district.     

Likewise, police nabbed Manish Rasaili, 23, of Morang district, 22-year-old Bishal Tamang of Ramechhap district, Bidur BK, 28, of Khotang and Phurba Tamang, 29, of Sindhupalchowk.     

The police also impounded a car, a tax and six motorcycles from the gang members.     

Police took the gang members under control based on the CCTV footage. Police personnel opened fire after the gang members attempted to escape the police by retaliating against the police force.     

The Tamang gang is charged of snatching valuables and looting cash from people in different areas of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur districts during the nighttime, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramesh Thapa said.     

According to police, the gang members used to ride motorcycles by forming a group of three among them.     

The so-called leader of the gang, Binaya, had fled police custody from Maharajgung Circle of Nepal Police during the Gen-Z Movement. He had reorganized the group after fleeing from the police custody.     

The gang was involved in 13 cases of lootings in Swyambhu, Budhanilkantha, Bauddha, Gaushala and Thimi in Bhaktapur.     

Last night, the gang was all set to loot the people in the Mulpani area.     

Police shared that the members of the gang getting injuries are receiving treatment.     

Most of the members of the gang had criminal records, police added.(RSS)
