EC asks clarification from five candidates, including Balen Sah

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan 27: The Election Commission (EC) has sought clarification from five candidates for violating the election code of conduct.

The explanations cite various instances in which different candidates are accused of breaching the code.

According to the Commission, an explanation was sought from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balendra (Balen) Sah for referring to CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli as a “murderer” on social media.

Similarly, another candidate from RSP, Nicholas Bhushal have been asked for justification in line with campaigning for the iconic shoes of Gen Z protest as the election symbol.

Harka Raj Sampang of Shram Sanskriti Party of has been called for using children in the campaigning and making them wear t-shirts. 

Assistant spokesperson Sita Pun said that candidate Januka Pathak was also asked to provide clarification for allegedly using hateful terms such as “murderer” and “rapist” against other candidates.

In the same manner, the Commission said it would seek an explanation from CPN-UML candidate Mahesh Basnet for using a derogatory term, calling Balen “chhaura,” in an insulting remark. Additionally, the Commission stated that it is investigating the Health Volunteers Association for holding a convention without permission after the election code of conduct had come into effect.

In another matter, the Commission said that the process of further inquiry is ongoing in the relevant department regarding the transfer of a teacher.

Election Commission said that further investigation will be carried out in all these matters and that necessary action will be taken accordingly.
