Traffic opened on blocked Mid-Hill Highway

Dhorpatan (Baglung), Jan 24: The Mid-Hill Highway, which was blocked from Friday night due to snowfall, has been opened for traffic.

The highway had been blocked due to snowfall at Patihalne bordering Baglung, Rolpa, and Eastern Rukum.     

Vehicular traffic had come to a halt on the highway after heavy snow piled up on the main road. Now, with the help of a JCB clearing the snow from the Eastern Rukum side, vehicles have started operating, informed Police Inspector Tilak Manandhar of the District Police Office Burtibang.     

Small and large vehicles that had departed from Kathmandu for Rukum East, West Rukum, Jajarkot, Dolpa and other places were stranded midway. Passengers were in distress in the cold. Manandhar said that the highway became operational after road was cleared of snow using a JCB excavator.     

Snowfall has occurred in upper areas including Nisikhola and Dhorpatan of Baglung, along with Patihalne. The snowfall has affected the lives of the local people.     

Dasharath Chand and Jayaprithvi highways blocked by snowfall operational     

Meanwhile, a report from Baitadi, a district in Sudurpaschim said the highways in the Far Western hills that had been blocked since last night due to snowfall have become operational.     

The Dasharath Chand Highway and the Jayaprithvi Highway had been blocked since last night due to snowfall in Anarkholi, Khodpe, Shreebhawar, Satbanjh, and Dehimadaun areas of Baitadi.     

The snow accumulated on the highway was cleared with the help of JCB excavator of the local Road Division Office, allowing traffic to resume. With the highway operational, passengers and vehicles stranded on the road since last night have proceeded towards their destinations, said police spokesperson and Inspector Suraj Singh of the District Police Office.     

According to him, even though the highway is operational, the electricity service has not yet been restored.(RSS)
