Rukum East, Jan 24: The Mid-Hill Highway has been obstructed due to snowfall in Rukum East.

According to the District Police Office, the Lukum-Patihalna section along the highway has been halted after the snowfall.

Vehicles are unable to pass through the section with disruption. As reported buses departing from Kathmandu were stuck here.

The District Police Office of Rukum East deployed a team led by Police Inspector Himraj BK from the Kakhri Police Station to clear off the road, DSP Umashankar Prasad Yadav informed.

He stated that it is still snowing continuously. Chief District Officer Sita Pariyar shared ongoing efforts to rescue the stranded vehicles and passengers, and coordination is underway with Bhume Rural Municipality to resume traffic.

Chief District Officer Pariyar noted that preparations are being made to remove snow and clear the road with a backhoe.

Snowfall has been occurring in the highland and mountainous areas of Rukum East since last night, while rainfall occurred in the lower areas.

The cold caused by the snowfall is affecting people's daily lives, however farmers are euphoric due to rain and snow after a hiatus.

The wheat farming has turned dry due to short of rain for long time. Rainfall after an interval has brought respite to the farmers, said Bimal BC, a local of Sisne Rural Municipality-5. (RSS)
