By Bom Lal Giri, Nawalpur, Jan 23: A newly constructed bridge at Chormara in Nawalpur, under the Narayanghat–Butwal road section, has come into operation.

District Police Office said that with the bridge coming into use from Thursday, police have also withdrawn the 24-hour police duty that had been deployed at the site.

After the old bridge collapsed on May 13, 2025, about eight and a half months ago, vehicles had been operating by repairing the old bridge.

To regulate vehicles carrying excessive loads, police had been deployed round the clock.

According to Chief of District Police Office, Superintendent of Police Yubaraj Khadka, the around-the-clock police duty to watch the passing vehicles has now been removed as the new bridge has become operational.

A total of 34 bridges were planned from Gaindakot to Daunne in the eastern section. Except for the Arungkhola bridge, construction of 33 bridges in the eastern section under the road expansion project has been completed.

Information Officer of the Road Expansion Project, Shiva Khanal, said that bridge construction work in the eastern section of Nawalpur has been completed.

Of these, 22 short bridges up to 25 meters in length and 12 bridges longer than 25 meters were to be constructed only the Arungkhola bridge remains unfinished, Khanal said, adding that construction work on the remaining bridge has been accelerated.

“Bridge construction is almost at the final stage. Only some work remains on the Arungkhola bridge, which will be completed soon,” Khanal said.

The project also stated that construction of some culverts in the Daunne section is still underway and is in its final phase.

According to the project, the overall physical progress of the Narayanghat–Butwal Road Expansion Project has reached 76 percent.

In the eastern section, except for the Daunne area, almost all blacktopping work has been completed, making travel smoother. However, in the Daunne section, road concreting work is still pending, causing travel difficulties.
