10-day mass drug administration campaign against elephantiasis begins today

Khajura (Banke), Jan 23: A drug consumption campaign against elephantiasis has been put in place in the district for the 16th time. 

The campaign will be conducted in Duduwa rural municipality for 10 days from today onwards. 

In order to make the campaign effective, health workers visit patients' homes in Duduwa throughout the day, evening and night to administer medicine, said Sitaram Chaudhary, head of the health section in Duduwa. 

"Medicines are administered at patients' homes. Local intellectuals are gathered for group discussions to motivate the consumption of medicine," he said. 

Earlier, an orientation programme for the municipal-level medicine consumption campaign against elephantiasis was conducted in Duduwa. 

On that occasion, Ram Kumar Mahato, Public Health Officer of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division at the Ministry of Health and Population, provided information about the government's investment to eliminate elephantiasis. 

Through the campaign, the target is to administer medicine to a total of 357,513 people, including 43,975 in Dudwa Rural Municipality, 43,899 in Narainapur Rural Municipality, and 169,339 in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City. 

A budget of Rs 4.3 million has been allocated for conducting the campaign.  (RSS)
