Kathmandu, Jan. 23: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended greetings to Nepalis at home and abroad on the occasion of Basanta Panchami and Saraswati Puja, highlighting the festival’s cultural, educational and natural significance.

In a message issued on Friday, President Paudel said the day, observed on Magh Shukla Panchami, is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Saraswati, revered as the deity of knowledge, education and music. “I extend my warmest greetings to all Nepali sisters, brothers and children living at home and abroad,” said President Paudel.

He noted that Basanta Panchami is traditionally marked by the initiation of learning, with children beginning to study the alphabet or enrolling in school. The day also holds special importance for music enthusiasts and for those commencing new ventures or undertaking auspicious activities, including weddings and religious observances.

Highlighting the broader meaning of the festival, the President said Basanta Panchami and Saraswati Puja are more than ritual observances. “They are an opportunity to keep our lives energetic and inspired towards new discoveries,” he said.

President Paudel also drew attention to the festival’s natural symbolism, marking the onset of spring as days grow longer and temperatures gradually rise. He said the occasion reflects the close relationship between Nepali life and nature. “I feel that today provides inspiration as a connection with knowledge and fulfilment of knowledge,” he added. President Paudel expressed his hope that the blessings of Goddess Saraswati would be upon everyone. “On this auspicious occasion, I once again express my best wishes that the goddess of knowledge may bless us all,” he said.
