Patan (Lalitpur), Jan 17: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has said that media personnel should also be represented in the future government.

At the second national conference of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Province Associate, held in Mahalaxmisthan of Lalitpur today, he stated that since journalists are skilled in every field, they should also have representation in the upcoming government.

Minister Kharel stated that since journalists understand everything about the country, society, and politics, running the state would not be difficult for them.

"I am also a person who has worked in journalism for 25 years. I became a minister suddenly on the back of the Gen Z movement. The notion that only those who make a profession out of politics should engage in it is outdated. I became a minister because the Gen Z people's movement respected journalism, and among more than 14,000 journalists in the country, many have the capacity to lead the nation," he said.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology stated that the current government, formed on the strength of the Gen Z movement, has only carried out people-oriented work in four months and emphasised that support from every section of society is needed to make the election on March 5 successful.

He said, "We are all participating in the elections, and we have expected an even stronger role from the journalism sector to make it successful."

Reiterating that the essence of the Gen Z movement is change, Minister Kharel stressed that every section of society should play an active role to ensure the success of the general elections.

Chairperson of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Nirmala Sharma, said that the FNJ is active for the rights and interests of working journalists. She also mentioned that the Federation is active for the protection of freedom of expression and democracy.

The president of the Film Journalists Association, Baikuntharaj Parajuli, emphasised that all journalists should unite for the rights and interests of working journalists employed in mainstream media.(RSS)
