Collective efforts stressed for disaster risk reduction

Kathmandu, Jan 16: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has urged one and all to unite and work together for the risk reduction of earthquakes and other disasters.     

Addressing a programme here on Friday on the occasion of the 28th Earthquake Safety Day, Minister Aryal said that he government was making efforts to institutionalize the tasks on disaster risk reduction as well as make them sustainable and result-oriented.     

Aryal stressed making earthquake-resistant physical infrastructure in the coming days and called for preparedness, response and recovery attempts at the community level with the collective efforts of all.     

The Home Minister stated that the effective operation of the Technology-Driven Multi-Hazard Alert System could reduce the loss of lives and properties.     

He also underscored the need for effective and result-oriented implementation of the systematic and sustainable concept of development to remain safe from earthquakes and other disasters.     

Likewise, Minister for Land Management, Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation Kumar Ingnam said that earthquake risk reduction and preparedness were the preconditions for earthquake safety.     

Also speaking at the event, Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol said that coordination among the three layers of government was needed in disaster risk reduction. (RSS)
