Football tournament being organized targeting Tamu Lhosar

By Chandra Pandak,Taplejung, Dec 25: A club-level open men's football tournament is set to be held in Taplejung on the occasion of Tamu Lhosar, the traditional festival of the Gurung community. 

The tournament will be held from December 26 to 30 in Phungling Municipality-6, the district headquarters.

The second Late Padam Bahadur Gurung Memorial Cup football tournament is being jointly organized by the Tamu Lhosar Main Organizing Committee and Taplejung Sporting Club.

Releasing a press conference on Wednesday, organizers conveyed the information about the competition. The participating teams and clubs and the match schedule have been made public.

According to the schedule, the opening match will be between the organizers and Satibhai Sports Club. Similarly, on the first day, a match will be played between Gorkhali Sporting Club and Karnsingh Sonam Football Club.

On the second day, December 27, a match will be played between Manmaya Sporting Club, Thukim and Mini Sporting Club, Furumbu. On the same day, a match will be played between Kanchenjungha Football Club and Tamu Sporting Club.

On the third day of the competition, on December 28, matches will be played between Nepal Police Club, Taplejung, and Pathibhara Youth Club, Fawakhola, and Nabaprayas Sporting Club and Keylang Sporting Club.

President of the Taplejung Sporting Club, Maniraj Gurung, said that the first round, group ‘B’ and semi-final matches will be held on December 29.

According to Chairman Gurung, the final of the competition will be held on December 30, the main day of Tamu Lhosar.

Meanwhile, the winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of Rs 115,000, along with a trophy, medal, and certificate.
