Wild elephant damage 12 houses in Triyuga area

 Gaighat (Udayapur), Dec 25: A herd of wild elephants has caused damage to more than 12 houses in the Triyuga Municipality area of the district. 

The tuskers entered the village at night and caused damage to more than 12 houses in Triyuga-5 Bagchauri, Triyuga-6 Mohanpur and Lalpata, and Triyuga-7 Chuhadebelauri areas from Sunday until last night.

Bishnu Bhujel, a local said that on Monday night, a group of about 70 elephants destroyed the homes of locals including his, Brihaspati Sada's, Mohan Karki's, and Rudra Pokharel's in the settlement.

Similarly, locals reported that a herd of elephants on Tuesday night damaged the houses of residents including Binda Karki and Raj Karki of Ward No 6 Mohanpur. Devilal Chaudhary, a local resident, said that elephants ate the stored grains in homes and destroyed houses in Lalpata of Ward No. 6 and Jogidaha of Ward No 1.

Krishna Karki of Triyuga-6 Mohanpur stated that a herd of about 70–75 elephants that came in the settlement during the night started to cause trouble by entering the village, eating crops, and destroying houses, prompting locals to sit by fires at night for security.

"Some local people's houses have been completely destroyed, while many others have been partially damaged or collapsed by the elephants," he said.

The District Police Office has urged locals to take precautions at night and stay in groups in safe places after the wild elephants started entering the village and causing havoc. (RSS)
