By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec 19: The government has committed to bearing the treatment cost of those journalists who were injured during the Gen Z protest.

Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel said so while addressing the programme organized to honor the wounded journalists during the Gen Z protest at Singha Durbar, today.

Four journalists were injured after being hit by the shrapnel and rubber bullets fired by the police during the Gen Z protest.

The injured journalists such as video journalist of Kantipur Television, Shyam Shrestha, photo journalist of Naya Patrika Daily, Dipendra Dhungana, photo journalist of Nepal Press dot com, Umesh Karki, and journalist Shambhu Dangal have been honored amid the programme organized at Singha Durbar.

Speaking at the honoring ceremony, Minister Kharel also urged the injured journalists to remain in constant contact.

The Communication Minister said, "The Government needs to bear the treatment cost of the wounded and will bear it. I committed that earlier as well. Why shouldn't the government, which is bearing so much of the country's expenses, bear yours? But there should be no misinformation about this. The government does care, but you should come in contact with the government."

Minister Kharel emphasized that the Federation of Nepali Journalists should arrange for proper employment for the injured journalists if they wish.
