By Guna Bahadur Roka, Gorkha, Dec 14: A septuagenarian Japanese couple has successfully crossed the Larke Pass of 5106 meter high located in the northern part of the Gorkha district.
Tasaka Tashki, born on August 4, 1947 and his spouse Tasaka Fumiko, born on August 17, 1947, climbed over the pass due to their love for the Nepal’s Himalayas.
The adventurous spirit of the 78-year-old couple is awesome as even many young people find it difficult to go over the Larke Pass.
“It was a long held dream of the couple to go over the Larke Pass. Their success stands as an example for how courage and commitment results in success of an adventurous trip, not your age,” said Pitambar Gurung, a local guide and tourism entrepreneur.
Gurung accompanied the couple as a guide during the crossing of the pass. “The surprising thing is that they carried their bags themselves and showed no sign of tiredness during the trek and climbing.”
Gurung shared that the couple had visited Nepal for 15 times in the past and climbed different mountains. “The couple said that climbing mountains, going over and around the Himalaya is a means to spiritual peace, not a challenge.”
