Kavrepalanchowk, Dec 14: The construction of Panchkhal-Sunkoshi Water Supply Project has reached the final-stage. Around 31,000 citizens here would be benefitted from the project.
The construction of the project has been delayed about three years due to various reasons. According to the Project Office, the under construction project has achieved around 99 per cent physical progress.
The project was repaired and reconstructed after the flood and landslide occurred in Asoj last year damaged most of its infrastructure, said Chairperson of the Drinking Water Consumers' Committee, Kumar Lamichhane.
He mentioned that drinking water has been formally distributed to targeted settlements after collecting water in 3.9 million litres -capacity of water treatment plant and overhead tank constructed at Panchkhal-9 bringing water from Sunkoshi river source.
The project would be brought into full operation within last of December. Eighty-four litres of water per second has been brought to the water treatment plant from the source.
The chairman of the committee, Lamichhane, said that physical infrastructure of wells and lifting technology have been constructed on the bank of the Sunkoshi River in Bimire, Ward 10 of Bhumlu Rural Municipality to manage drinking water in Panchkhal Municipality.
According to him, the project, which will be completed at a cost of Rs 1 billion 474 million 360 thousand, has benefited 31,415 citizens of 6,037 households in Panchkhal Municipality 's Ward–2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12.
It is estimated that each person will be able to consume 192.05 litres of water daily. The project office projected that 45,000 citizens will benefit from this project by 2040.(RSS)
