Palpa jeep accident: Death toll reaches four

By Iman Singh Rana, Rampur, Palpa, Dec 13:The death toll in a jeep accident that occurred in Nisdi Rural Municipality-4 of Palpa on Friday has reached four. Three people died on the spot.

One more person died during treatment, taking the death toll to four. 

Police said that 34-year-old Sundar BK of Madhyabindu Municipality-13, Nawalpur, died while undergoing treatment at Old Medical College, Bharatpur, Chitwan.

The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Om Kumari Khamcha of Thoksingbas, Nisdi Rural Municipality-4, Hem Kumari Saru, aged 36, of Huwas, Nisdi-7, and Budhi Maya BK, aged 31, of Madhyabindu Municipality-13, Nawalpur, who died at the scene of the accident on Friday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police of the District Police Office, Palpa, Hom Prakash Chaudhary said that the deceased are Sundar and Buddhi Maya, a husband and wife.

28-year-old Mina Kumari Sunari, Nine-year-old Newraj Khamcha, five-year-old Salin Khamcha, 73-year-old Nar Bahadur Sunari, 72-year-old Bhumisara Sunari, of Nisdi Rural Municipality-4 and 10-year-old Lawis Sunar and Prinsa Sunar of Madhyabindu Municipality-13 of Nawalpur sustained injuries in the accident. 

Among the injured are Lavis and Prinsa, the children of Sundar and Buddhimaya. 

Police said that their condition is out of danger.

The jeep (Lu 1 Ja 3908), which was coming from Arunkhola in Nawalpur towards Rampur in Palpa, met with an accident near Nisdi-4, Chiuribas along the Rampur-Mityal-Arunkhola road section at 10 AM on Friday.

Three of the injured are undergoing treatment at Madhyabindu Provincial Hospital, Kawasoti, Nawalpur, and Old Medical College, Chitwan, Bharatpur.

Four have been discharged following the treatment. 

The jeep was unable to pull on the uphill road, so while stopping to let off passengers, the jeep overturned and the accident occurred.

The Force jeep fell 1,100 meters off the road.

Police said that further investigation into the incident is underway. The driver has been taken into custody by the police.
