Kathmandu, Dec 6: Officiating Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of Nepal, Ram Prasad Bhandari, has said that the Commission is fully prepared for the House of Representatives election to be held on March 5, 2026.
With 90 days remaining until the Election Day, speaking to the National News Agency (RSS) today, Officiating Chief Commissioner Bhandari stated that the Government of Nepal has made all necessary arrangements as per the commission's request, and that the election atmosphere has been further ensured as the EC has published the timetable and programme. He said that work is progressing ahead accordingly.
The Officiating Chief Election Commissioner maintained that the commission made it clear in the all-sides discussions called on Friday by Prime Minister Sushila Karki with political parties, relevant ministers of the Government of Nepal, and heads of security agencies that the Election Commission Nepal is ready for the elections.
"We had some budgetary shortfalls. The Ministry of Finance has already committed to releasing additional funds on the basis of demand or expenditure. Now we will proceed ahead with the regular programme. We have made this clear to the government, political parties, and security agencies," Bhandari said.
The Election Commission has requested a budget of about Rs 7 billion, of which the Ministry of Finance has already secured Rs 5 billion 960 million.
One hundred and twenty political parties intending to participate in the election have already submitted applications to the commission until November 30.
Meanwhile, the Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari expressed gratitude as the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) began to give priority to news and materials related to election including the countdown to the election in its regular bulletins and said that the role of media like RSS would be important in creating an election-friendly environment in the country.(RSS)
